Retaining walls and flood protection
There are many types of retaining walls, each designed to hold a bank of earth where there is a change of grade.
The most common types are timber pole walls, crib walls and concrete pile walls. We can build every type from small to large scale walls, factoring the lateral load if it needs to support a structure and with drainage to prevent water build-up.
Not all retaining walls require a building consent, but if you need one, we’ll manage that process for you. With the latest machinery and equipment, we can build retaining walls on tricky sites and in narrow spaces for both residential and commercial structures. We also build retaining structures around roads and bridges.

Mechanically stabilised earth walls
TW Civil and Infrastructure also has the capability to build mechanically stabilised earth (MSE) retaining walls. These are composite structures with compacted, alternating layers of backfill and soil which becomes structurally stronger through friction and tension. With this technique, the wall facing can be thinner as its primary function is to prevent erosion. The resulting structure can support very heavy loads.
Flood protection
As we’ve recently experienced across the country, floods can happen quickly and with little warning. Our specialists know how to manage rivers through engineering and drainage, preventing flooding where necessary to make our communities safer for everyone.
