TW Civils successfully delivered a three-month recovery project across seven cyclone-affected sites along Whanawhana Road, addressing extensive slip damage and restoring safe, two-lane access for motorists. The scope involved a cut-to-fill road retreat, where cut materials for batter for road retreat was reused to fill drop outs and using of crushed Red metal from one site to form the new road structure across the sites — a cost-effective approach that also reduced environmental impact. This project was a collaborative effort between TW Civils and our valued client Hastings District client and consultant engineer GHD, working together to deliver a successful outcome in a challenging environment. To ensure long-term stability, layers of geo-grid reinforcement were installed throughout the fill zones, supporting settlement and improving overall resilience. A key feature of the project was the on-site crushing of slip material using an aggregate crusher, allowing it to be repurposed directly into the pavement structure. This not only minimised waste and transport requirements but also aligned with TW Civils’ commitment to sustainable construction practices. Completed within the budget and delivered three weeks ahead of schedule, the project reflects our focus on practical engineering solutions and efficient delivery.
