Taihape Road – Site 10 Infrastructure Upgrade

TW Civil & Infrastructure delivered critical stormwater and road infrastructure upgrades at Site 10 on Taihape Road as part of the P2024-140 Contractors Supplier Panel contract.

The project involved extensive earthworks, drainage improvements, mechanically stabilised earth (MSE) wall construction, pavement rehabilitation, and final surfacing and line marking, all completed within a live rural road environment.

A key feature of the works was the installation of a DuraGreen reinforced soil MSE wall system to stabilise embankments and strengthen this vulnerable section of road. The project also included construction of an 800mm SN16 Euroflow stormwater pipe and associated infrastructure, pavement reconstruction, chip sealing, and full environmental reinstatement.

Key Highlights

– Successful integration of DuraGreen reinforced soil MSE wall technology

– Complex drainage works delivered with minimal disruption to road users and landowners

– End-to-end project delivery, including full QA documentation and as-builts

– Completed three weeks ahead of schedule

– Zero health & safety or environmental incidents

Technical Delivery

The MSE wall construction required precise sequencing of geogrids, geotextiles, drainage composites and reinforced soil systems to ensure long-term structural and hydraulic performance. GPS-enabled plant allowed accurate excavation and fill placement, while strict quality assurance processes ensured compliance at every stage.

Value engineering initiatives included sourcing aggregates locally to reduce cartage costs and environmental impact, and upgrading to Euroflow pipe to improve hydraulic performance while maintaining budget efficiency.

Project Outcomes

Delivered on time and within budget, the Taihape Road upgrade has significantly improved drainage performance and slope stability along this section of corridor.

The project demonstrates TW Civil & Infrastructure’s capability to manage technically complex works in constrained rural environments – safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality.
